The original Grimsby & Streaper Casket Company was constructed in 1891. It was built over a cave that the locals called The Sinks. The locals never went there, and it was said that anyone who ventured in to The Sinks either went mad, or were never seen again. The company operated 24 hours a day, but it was at night that it was most active. It was said that unnatural things went on in the place, and it was often blamed for the unusual number of people who disappeared from the town.
Wherever Ripley went, he searched for the odd and the unusual. In his quest, he documented the customs and beliefs of many ancient and exotic civilizations. Whenever possible he brought home artifacts from his journeys, which today form the heart of the greatest collection of oddities ever assembled. With the Great Smoky Mountains as the backdrop, Ripley's Davy Crockett Mini-Golf offers two beautifully landscaped 18-hole courses. You’ll be amazed and delighted by all the animated and interactive displays throughout. See raccoons, bears, chipmunks, possums, skunks and even heckling crows. The themed course, replicating the “old days” when a Tennessee hero named Davy Crockett roamed “them thar hills”, is loaded with some of the world’s most original golf holes, complete with steep drops, splits, over/under ramps, lots of water, and even a hillbilly outhouse that flushes when your putt is right on target.
